Hosted vs Cash Bar: Which One Is for You

An open bar at your wedding isn’t always a given. In fact, there are a couple ways you can provide a bar to your guests that make the most sense for you and your budget.

Hosting a bar can be expensive. Often there are options on how much of the cost you are going to cover. The first option is to have a fully covered open bar. You either pay for a package or by consumption. Either way, this is the costliest since many people have a couple drinks at a wedding. Guests are only responsible to tip. Purchasing a package is the best option if you know your guests will have multiple drinks. To offer a hosted option but keep costs down, you can opt to cover just wine and beer and any custom cocktails or liquor has to be purchased by the guest. A great way to do this is to have wine available on each table already.

Finally, a fully cash bar means your guests have to be prepared to pay out of pocket for anything they drink. The bar is stocked like usual and they can bring cash or use a card. Choosing the best option for your wedding should reflect your budget.
